The triple-lock gate opens only after three distinct movements of the sleeve and gate. This reduces the risk of accidental opening when the connector is loaded against an edge, dragged by a moving rope or knocked during work, which is why triple-action gates are often specified for rescue, rope-access and belay applications. The key-lock nose prevents the gate from catching on slings.
The A12117 frame is also offered with a screw gate (A12117KSG) and a twist-lock gate (A12117KTL), so a range can share one geometry across three locking actions.
