SA-04 Via Ferrata Spring Shock Absorber for Horizontal Lifelines

The SA-04 is one of three spring-type shock absorbers for horizontal lifelines in this range, alongside the SA-03 and SA-05. Its body and spring are both stainless steel, it fits 8 mm wire cable, and it reduces fall arrest forces. The ladder-system version is the SA04.

Installed in line near an end anchor, the absorber takes up part of the energy of a fall by compressing its spring, lowering the peak load reaching the anchors. This helps where lifelines are fixed to structures with limited load capacity, such as roof sheeting, parapets or rock, and on long spans where cable forces build up.

To tell the SA-04 apart from the SA-03 and SA-05, buyers should ask for drawings and performance data and choose with the system designer. Data worth requesting include activation force, stroke, overall length and end connections. The absorber should be inspected after any fall and at the intervals the system documentation sets. The SA-04 can be produced as OEM or private label.
