Dimensions as well as ratings are published for the 051A forest hook. For 6 mm chain, the hook measures L 41 mm, B 8 mm, E 7.5 mm and G 17 mm, with a working load limit of 1.25 ton. The 7+8 mm size measures L 58 mm and G 18 mm and is rated at 2.0 ton, and the 10 mm size measures L 80 mm and G 21.2 mm and is rated at 3.2 ton. Minimum breaking load is four times the WLL. The letter dimensions refer to the product drawing.
Forest hooks are used on chains for skidding, bundling and handling logs and timber in forestry and sawmill work, where the hook is attached and released repeatedly. They also find use in general chain rigging. The 051A is lifting and handling hardware, not fall protection equipment.
