Pinned to the chain by its clevis, the 4600A grab shortening hook holds a chain link in its narrow throat so a leg can be shortened at any point. The 6-8 size has a working load limit of 1.2 ton and weighs 0.175 kg; 7/8-8 is rated at 2.0 ton, 10-8 at 3.2 ton, 13-8 at 5.4 ton and 16-8 at 8.2 ton; and 20-8 carries 12.8 ton at 4.100 kg. Minimum breaking load is four times the working load limit.
Shortening hooks let riggers level loads with an off-centre centre of gravity, adjust leg lengths on multi-leg slings and take up slack chain. They are used in construction, precast, machinery installation and general lifting. Check whether the design supports the chain fully in the throat or requires a reduction in rated capacity, as this varies by hook design. The 4600A is lifting hardware, not fall protection equipment.
Buyers should state the chain size and grade and where the hook will be fitted. The 4600A can be produced as OEM or private label, or adapted to a drawing.
