Step-in bindings give the most rigid connection between boot and crampon, and the CRM-12-S uses one: a wire toe bail at the front and a lever at the heel. The 12-point frame is steel with PU components, and an anti-snow plate is fitted that can be removed.
This combination suits technical mountaineering, steep snow and alpine ice, where front-pointing precision and a firm fit matter. The anti-snow plate reduces snow balling in soft or wet snow, a frequent hazard on afternoon descents. The boot must have welts at both toe and heel.
