A12224KTL is built on the 119 x 78 mm, 7075 aluminium alloy frame of the A12224 family with a twist-lock gate. Strengths are listed as 28 kN major axis, 8 kN minor axis and 8 kN gate open; the gate opens to 21.5 mm and the connector weighs 90 g.

A twist-lock sleeve returns to the locked position when released, so the user does not have to remember to secure it.
