A005KNS 7075 Aluminium Key-Lock Straight-Gate Carabiner

A005KNS is made from 7075 aluminium, a high-strength aluminium-zinc alloy widely used for climbing connectors. The frame measures 99 x 59 mm, weighs 45 g and has a 17.5 mm straight-gate opening. Three strengths are specified: 24 kN along the major axis, 8 kN across the minor axis and 8 kN with the gate open.

Those figures sit above the minimums EN 12275 sets for basic (Type B) connectors, which are 20 kN, 7 kN and 7 kN, although certification always depends on testing of the production part. The key-lock nose lets the carabiner unclip from bolt hangers and slings without hooking, a common choice for the bolt end of a quickdraw.

Being non-locking, A005KNS is not intended for belaying or for connections that must not open. A screw-gate partner on the same frame is A005KSG.
