A455KTL-3 is a 123.2 x 95.1 mm aluminium alloy connector with a triple-lock gate and a 17 mm gate opening. Its minimum tensile strength is 35 kN, and the minimum gate and side-load strengths are each 3,600 lbs (16 kN). It is specified as meeting ANSI/ASSE Z359.12-2009 and CSA Z259.12-11.
The 3,600 lb gate rating is the key requirement that distinguishes current North American fall-protection connectors from older designs, and it is also why an ANSI-rated gate is noticeably more robust than a typical climbing carabiner gate. Aluminium keeps the weight down for workers who carry several connectors, while the triple-lock gate requires three deliberate actions to open.
