S908 Steel Descender Rack, CED Black

S908 is the steel counterpart of the aluminium A908 rack. The steel construction raises the weight to 602 g, against 372 g for the aluminium version, in exchange for better resistance to rope wear on the bars, which matters in muddy caves, sandy canyons and rescue teams that use the same rack many times. The standard finish is CED black, a cathodic electro-deposition coating, and the rope range is 8-13 mm. A dimension drawing is included as the second image.

A rack lets the user change friction during the descent by engaging or spreading bars, a useful feature on long drops where the weight of rope hanging below decreases as the user descends. It is also used for controlled lowering in rescue systems.
