The SRL-2.7M holds 2.7 m (9 ft) of 19 mm webbing, a length also quoted as 9 ft for imperial-unit markets. The high-impact-resistant plastic housing is 131 x 94 x 47 mm (5.2 x 3.7 x 1.85 in), and the unit is fitted with a swivel connector and a tagline for retrieving the connector when the line is retracted.

Short webbing retractables are used as an alternative to a fixed-length lanyard: the line stays taut as the worker moves, so free fall distance is kept small. Suitable settings include construction, building maintenance, warehousing and utility work with an overhead anchor. Housing size stays the same across the 2 m to 3 m models, so a range can be built with common accessories.
