Climbing Nuts

1 product

This category covers passive nuts, also called chocks or stoppers, used as removable protection in traditional and alpine climbing. A nut is placed in a constriction in a crack and wedges tighter when loaded, giving light protection with no moving parts. The AN-10 range runs from size 1 to size 10: sizes 1 and 2 are rated at 4 kN on 2.4 mm 7x7 wire rope, sizes 3 to 5 at 7 kN on 3.2 mm 7x7 wire, and sizes 6 to 10 at 11 kN on 3.2 mm 7x19 wire. Nuts are typically sold as colour-coded sets and as individual sizes. In Europe, chocks for climbing are tested to EN 12270. The AN-10 can be supplied OEM or private label, with set composition, wire colours and marking specified by the brand owner.

Frequently asked questions

Why are small nuts rated lower than large ones?
Small nuts have smaller heads and thinner wire, so they cannot hold as much load. In the AN-10 range, sizes 1 and 2 are rated at 4 kN, sizes 3 to 5 at 7 kN and sizes 6 to 10 at 11 kN. Climbers usually back up small placements.
What does 7x7 or 7x19 wire rope mean?
The figures describe the wire rope construction: seven strands of seven wires, or seven strands of nineteen wires. A 7x19 construction uses more, finer wires and is more flexible for the same diameter. The AN-10 uses 7x7 wire on the smaller sizes and 7x19 on sizes 6 to 10.
Should nuts be sold as sets or individually?
Most brands offer both: a set covering the common crack sizes for new trad climbers, and individual sizes for replacements. Colour coding by size helps climbers pick the right nut quickly.
What should a nut RFQ include?
Specify the sizes and set composition, head finish and colours, wire colour coding, marking, packaging and the standard required for the target market, such as EN 12270. Power Honour can supply the AN-10 under private label or adapt head shapes to a customer drawing.

Need this in a different specification?

Different size, material, finish, strength rating or gate, or a part that is not here at all. Send a drawing or a sample and we will come back with a DFM review and a quotation.

  • A reply within two business days from our team in Taipei.
  • NDA on request before drawings or specifications change hands.
  • An engineering and DFM review, not a sales pitch — we will say so if we are the wrong fit.
