Stainless Steel Rigging Hardware
Stainless Steel Pulleys
1 product
This category covers general-purpose stainless steel pulley blocks for marine, architectural and light rigging use. The current model, SS0177, is a swivel single pulley in stainless steel 304, listed in three sizes identified by dimension D as 25, 32 and 50. A swivel eye lets the block align itself with the direction of pull, and stainless steel resists corrosion in outdoor and marine-adjacent locations such as boats, shade sails, awnings and flagpoles. These blocks are hardware rather than personal protective equipment, and no strength rating is published, so buyers should agree working loads before use. For rope rescue, rope access or zip lines, see the kN-rated pulleys in the Mountaineering range. Stainless pulleys can be supplied as OEM hardware or modified to a customer drawing.
Frequently asked questions
- What is a swivel single pulley used for?
- It is a block with one sheave and a swivelling attachment, used to guide a rope or cable around a change of direction. Typical uses include boat rigging, shade-sail and awning tensioning, flagpoles, clotheslines and light architectural rigging. The swivel lets the block turn to follow the line.
- Is stainless steel 304 suitable for marine use?
- Grade 304 performs well outdoors and in occasional contact with salt spray. Grade 316, which contains molybdenum, offers better resistance to chlorides and is generally preferred for parts that are permanently exposed to seawater. Buyers should state the environment so the right grade can be discussed.
- Can these pulleys be used for climbing or fall protection?
- No. SS0177 is general-purpose hardware with no published breaking strength and is not intended for lifting or protecting people. For life-safety rope systems, choose the kN-rated rope pulleys in the Mountaineering range, which list breaking strengths and rope sizes.
- How do I choose the right size?
- Match the sheave groove to the rope or cable diameter and choose a size whose working load exceeds the expected line tension, remembering that a line turning 180 degrees puts close to twice its tension on the attachment. The SS0177 size table lists versions with D of 25, 32 and 50 together with their other dimensions, and a drawing can be supplied for checking fit.
- What should an RFQ for stainless pulleys include?
- State the size, stainless grade, rope or cable diameter, required working load, attachment type and quantity. If the pulley is part of a kit, describe the other components and any packaging or marking needed for retail.
